Status Dogs & The Dangerous Dogs Act

Despite being nearly mistaken for a ‘dog whisperer’ this was a positive piece of coverage regarding my views on the great status dog / dangerous dogs act debate on London’s LBC Radio. You can listen to the recording here.

One Response to “Status Dogs & The Dangerous Dogs Act”

    Hi there Ryan,

I have just listened to your lbc interview with interest.

I totally agree that there is no such thing as a dangerous breed of dog, i have personally come across agressive labradors, but lets face it no-one will ever ban the Andrex puppy.. Hey!

I am a previous breeder of Staffordshire bull terriers, and a freelance dog trainer.
I currently have 2 pedigree male Staffies and a female stafffie (jack russel??) cross who was rescued from someone kicking her in my local common 7 weeks ago.

I feel there should be a compulsory dog owners class, as unfortunately most owners are just not aware of what exactly it is that their dogs needs are.
I recently done an interview with the bbc which has not gone to air yet and also one with the Blue Cross and Lord Henley where i spoke to Steve Goody afterwards on what i believe should be our governments course of action..

Although i agree with most of what you said i have to disagree on the whole dogs and some hoodie owners not being as bad as it’s made out (forgive me if i misunderstood you) But my dog Tigger has fallen victim to many attacks by Staffies and Staffie/Pit mixes, and although he is an extremly calm well balanced dog he seems to be targeted by these dogs owned by people that don’t understand the breed, people who are using them to intimidate others and to come across as being tougher so as not to be bothered by others when out.. I regularly come across owners that are using motorbike chains as leads, and it is a big problem in my area.
In fact try going into the Blue Cross in victoria to see how bad the whole so called ‘status’ thing is as you are almost guaranteed to see a variety of lets just say ‘Bull type breeds’ which could certainly be put into the ‘status’ category..

My dog was attacked and myself bitten 8 or so times on New years eve, while i was out rollerblading with my son and dogs.
My son is 8 years old and was hysterical and terrified when he saw the amount of blood coming from my hands, and yet when the police came they done nothing to help except for persuade me not to press charges, as it would all go to court and i too would be penalised for having a dog off the lead while dangerously out of control in a public place (basically protecting himself when the dog attacked him).. The owner of this dog while attacking was lashing out at her dog with one of these huge chain leads no matter how much i told her not too before she then started to pull her dog, so unfortunately the fight lasted much longer than it needed to had she have stayed calm and listened to me.

Anyway’s rant over i would love to talk to yourself reguarding this issue..
